The chief challenge of this project was to open up a dark, cramped basement approached via a narrow enclosed staircase. Reaching down, and pushing back the retaining wall extended the space, and installing skylights radically boosted the natural daylight. The staircase was reconfigured helping to link the newly redesigned space to the rest of the house. The entire property was refurbished, and we worked with the clients’ already extensive collection of art and furniture to create the perfect setting for their pieces. We recently completed a pied-à-terre in central London for this client.
